Il Nursing Up incontra il Governatore De Pascale e l'Assessore Fabi

Incontro in Regione con il Governatore...

Dear colleagues,

today we would like to share with you an important update: we participated in an institutional meeting at the Region with Governor Michele De Pascale and the Health Councillor Massimo Fabi

It was a cordial and constructive discussion, marked by a pleasant welcome and – finally – by a change of approach that we could define as a possible turning point. For the first time, we perceived a real willingness to listen and collaborate in building together an operational path with an eye not only to the already dramatic present but also to the future, one that is truly effective, both for the regional system and for healthcare professionals.

We brought fundamental topics to the table:
- The growing phenomenon of voluntary resignations
- The abandonment of the healthcare profession
- The increasingly evident lack of attractiveness of our work
- Welfare

But above all, we emphasized an aspect too often ignored: the climate in the workplace. We strongly requested that companies adopt respectful, kind, never harassing or threatening relational methods. Because a profession that is already underpaid, if it is also devalued and humiliated, can only drive people away.

We appreciated the recent statements by the Governor on the intention to improve salaries. However, we invited him not to take the path of “blanket distributions”, which end up displeasing healthcare professionals, without really incentivizing anyone to stay in the public sector. This type of intervention, in fact, fuels the flight to the private sector, freelance work or, in many cases, the total abandonment of the sector.

We expressed our satisfaction in having found a clear sign of progress in the BRO pathways, already present in a patchy way in our territory, and still not standardized. Thanks to these, it will finally be possible to implement real care of the patient from the very first moment by the midwife in her sole management. This represents an authentic enhancement of the profession, a recognition of the fundamental role that the midwife can and must have. Naturally, this professional recognition must necessarily be accompanied by economic enhancement as well, but we can say that this is a good practice, capable of concretely improving the Regional Health Service. Naturally, this professional recognition must necessarily be accompanied by economic enhancement as well, but we can say that this is a good practice, capable of concretely improving the Regional Health Service.

We also greatly appreciated from the Governor and the Councillor the concrete willingness to make a difference to reverse the trend of the flight of healthcare professionals, recognizing them as a central and indispensable role in rebuilding an effective and sustainable public health system. They did not seem like words of circumstance, but a conscious stance, which we really appreciated and which we intend to value.

Another crucial issue we wanted to bring to attention concerns the annual objectives assigned to the managers of healthcare companies, appointed by the region. Today, many colleagues perceive a strong disconnect between the reality experienced in the wards and the achievement of objectives by the top management, which often translates into economic rewards regardless of the perceived quality of services or the well-being of operators.
We proposed that among the evaluation indicators, pragmatic and concrete data should also be included, such as the resignation rate, particularly among young professionals or those with long experience. Because if a company records a high number of departures, it is evident that something is not working, and this must also have an impact on the final evaluations of management.

Another point on which we wanted to place great attention is corporate welfare, which we consider a key element of well-being, motivation and loyalty. In a context where salaries remain low, solid and well-constructed welfare can make the difference.
We proposed to encourage measures such as controlled rents for employees, especially in cities where the cost of living is a barrier to hiring, or subsidies for transport, services for families and agreements useful for daily life.
Some companies that have already implemented measures in this direction have found good appreciation from staff, and we are pleased that the Governor has also shown sensitivity to the issue, recognizing the strategic value of welfare designed for the worker. It is a field that is little developed but with great potential, on which we believe much more should be invested.

We deeply believe in the National Health Service. We consider it the highest expression of patient care. And that is where we would like to remain. But today, for many, it is no longer possible. And this is a signal that we cannot ignore.

The feeling we take home today is that something is changing. The openness shown by the Region and the new style of dialogue give us hope. It is a dynamic that we want to recognize and support, while remaining vigilant and determined.

We will continue to keep you updated, with transparency and responsibility. This is only a first step, but we know how important it is to walk together.
