Our delegation, the only nursing union present, recently met with the new Health Councillor of the Emilia Romagna Region, Dr. Massimo Fabi. During the meeting, we emphasized the need for more incisive and courageous regional union relations to address the challenges of a workforce of healthcare professionals who are increasingly older, worn out, and demotivated by grueling shifts and unsustainable working conditions. Among the critical issues that emerged, we highlighted the growing number of voluntary resignations of healthcare workers, who are choosing the private sector or freelance work, and reiterated the importance of completing and reorganizing strategic projects of the National Health System, such as the CAU (Urgent Care Operations Center) and D.M. 77, through hiring in line with current regulations. Nursing Up Emilia Romagna continues to denounce one of the most critical healthcare situations in the country. Managerial and political inefficiencies do not meet the needs of the sector, causing a severe staff shortage and an increasingly toxic work environment. In other countries, managers who fail resign; in Italy, they are rewarded, leaving professionals with stagnant salaries for years. In many companies, coordinators require free on-call availability, often threatening informal service orders. We invite colleagues to demand formal orders, to expose these inadequate management practices. The lack of concrete investment is making the nursing profession less and less attractive. Traditional unions, after decades of activity, have not achieved significant results for the category. Salaries are frozen, workloads are increasing, and in the Bologna area, there are further obstacles: a five-year mobility freeze provided for in contracts, discriminatory criteria in competitions, and precarious working conditions. Nursing Up Emilia Romagna invites all healthcare professionals to join together to build a strong and determined union. Only together can we achieve: 2025 represents an opportunity for change. Let us unite to ensure a better future for healthcare professionals and citizens.
