The main unions in the healthcare sector, Nursing Up, Anaao Assomed and Cimo-Fesmed, have denounced the unbearable working conditions and inadequate salaries. The unions have made demands to politicians, which, if not heard, will lead to an unprecedented state of unrest. The situation, worsened by the ongoing assaults on professionals, While waiting for a concrete response, a first major demonstration is already scheduled for November 20, 2024 in Rome. The unions denounce embarrassing salaries and unbearable working conditions, made even worse by the ongoing assaults on healthcare professionals, as recently happened in Foggia and elsewhere. The leaders of the Anaao Assomed, Cimo-Fesmed and Nursing Up organizations demand: − Make hospitals safe places. − Tax exemption for allowances − Increase salaries and resources for the CCNL − Reform hospital and territorial care − Invest in the NHS not only with funding, but also with laws that allow its relaunch; − make healthcare professions attractive, by investing in public and private staff - A hiring plan that limits hardship − Contractualize residents and help off-site students − Recognize the strenuous nature of care professions “If answers are delayed, we will declare a state of unrest which will be followed by abstention from work in the ways and times we deem most appropriate.” Nursing Up Emilia Romagna, in all institutional meetings has reminded political forces that nurses are the largest, best-prepared and most educated workforce in the country and demand: Salaries aligned with the OECD average Exclusivity allowance or elimination of the exclusivity constraint for all healthcare professionals (as for doctors) Recognition of the profession as strenuous Freedom of mobility A single national contract Recognition of qualifications and meritocracy, with career opportunities and adequate compensation Recognition of the role of public official also for nurses We remind politicians that we have risks, responsibilities, autonomy, we are unrecognized Managers Financial support for off-site nursing students The resources needed for these reforms can be found from the PNRR, from works of dubious usefulness, by fighting corruption, crime and waste in the public sector.
