In an unexpected twist, the Bologna Local Health Authority (Ausl) has cancelled the meeting with the trade unions, scheduled for August 8, regarding the transfer of the orthopedics branch to Rizzoli. The new date for the meeting is yet to be determined. This transfer of the business branch is absolutely incomprehensible to us. It is the result of the lack of turnover in medical management and cannot be accepted at the expense of the workers in the sector. The Union's Position As a union, we cannot accept all this! We will take legal action if workers and colleagues are forced into a contract change that penalizes their career path. In particular, they would suffer: In short, they will lose economic recognition and will no longer be able to decide where to work. We accept this postponement by the company, because this issue must be addressed with the right timing and not in a hurry. Above all, it must not be taken for granted. Nursing Up firmly opposes this maneuver which, once again, penalizes nurses and all workers in the sector. A tough legal battle is looming if the Ausl does not protect the professionals who decide to stay in the company. But is this how a healthcare professional is treated? The former hero? Those who work hard on the wards and deserve respect? At a time in history when there is a shortage of nurses, when there is so much talk about making the profession attractive and seeking resources from other countries, how can entire teams be forced into contract changes risking losing them? We should not complain if more and more professionals decide to resign, choosing places where they are valued and not humiliated in this way. Bologna, August 6, 2024
