A pregnant woman gave birth on a Trenitalia Frecciabianca train, which departed from Rome towards Turin.

A nurse from the Hospital of Pisa who was traveling on the train, with the help of a midwife via video call, managed to help a woman in labor give birth without any problems. The newborn baby girl and the mother were taken to the San Giacomo Hospital in Novi Ligure.

This incredible story demonstrates not only the competence and dedication of our colleagues, but also the ability to work as a team in any condition.

This is why our nurses and midwives are appreciated and sought after all over the world.

The only ones who don't understand this are Italian politicians, the regions, and the management class of our healthcare companies. 

Politics and management ignore the critical situation in which our healthcare professionals find themselves, who suffer unacceptable and unfair working conditions. Their salaries have been stagnant for over thirty years, their allowances are ridiculous, their contracts are oppressive and discriminatory. 

Their rights are trampled on, such as the possibility of practicing as freelancers, receiving pay for holidays and overtime, or changing workplace without obstacles. The comparison with foreign colleagues is merciless: in other countries, healthcare professionals are treated with respect and dignity, while in Italy they are relegated to B or C level roles.

We ask politicians to act responsibly, if they are able, and to establish a sector dedicated to healthcare professionals with specific resources, a single national contract, and to encourage colleagues to stay in Italy by guaranteeing or restoring all those rights that are denied today in Italy, while in other countries they are the rule.
