Dostarlimab is a humanized anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) (programmed death-1 receptor, programmed death-1), of the immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) class, produced with recombinant DNA technology in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. This new drug had actually already been made available by the European Commission in London on April 23, 2021, and is currently also used in Italy for the treatment of adult female patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. A small study conducted by researchers from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (Msk), in the United States, and presented at the World Oncology Congress at Asco, showed the complete cure from colon cancer, of 12 young adults, 60% women, without resorting to radiotherapy, chemotherapy or surgery. The research results are almost miraculous, even though the research was conducted on only 12 individuals. The recommended dose in monotherapy is 500 mg of dostarlimab every 3 weeks for 4 cycles, followed by 1,000 mg every 6 weeks for all subsequent cycles. Clearly, it will then be the researcher/oncologist who, based on age and comorbidities, will decide on any changes to the therapy. In Italy, colon cancer kills 20,000 people a year and every year there are 50,000 new diagnoses, with a sharp increase among young adults (unhealthy lifestyles, diet, sedentary habits). As we say in every article, prevention is everything, even in colon cancer, but when the tumor is detected at an advanced stage, everything becomes difficult. LapaginadiNursingUp Dostarlimab could be the key, like all drugs it is not free from side effects, even though the 12 patients did not have significant problems.
