On May 31, 2025, the German Institute for Quality and Finance (ITQF) published a new ranking of the best Italian hospitals, drawn up on the basis of objective parameters such as reputation, quality of medical care, hygiene, quality initiatives, research activities, and services aimed at patients. In Emilia-Romagna, four healthcare facilities stood out at the national level, ranking among the top twenty positions in the ranking. In particular: The Morgagni-Pierantoni of Forlì ranked second, right after the Gemelli Polyclinic of Rome; The Sant’Orsola Polyclinic of Bologna ranked ninth; The Bufalini of Cesena is in nineteenth place; The Infermi Hospital of Rimini closes the regional group with twentieth place. An important result, which testifies to the excellence of the Emilia-Romagna healthcare system. However, it is too often forgotten that behind these successes are the daily sacrifices of professionals such as nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants, and many other healthcare figures. These workers guarantee the quality of care by facing grueling shifts, mandatory returns, giving up rest and holidays. Paradoxically, when they resign, many healthcare companies refuse to pay out accrued holidays, turning a violated right into a further mockery. In this regard, the Nursing Up union reminds its members that it provides a free legal service for the recovery of unused holidays, thus protecting the rights of those who have given so much to the healthcare system. The continuous sacrifices, not accompanied by adequate economic recognition or benefits, are contributing to the explosion of the phenomenon of burnout and the progressive abandonment of the profession by healthcare personnel. Institutions and companies must finally become aware of the fact that the quality of our hospitals is based, above all, on the commitment and dedication of these professionals.
