An insufficient step. A drop in the ocean of the healthcare crisis that continues to worsen. Hospitals are collapsing, the chronic shortage of nurses, midwives, and healthcare assistants is now unsustainable. Healthcare staff, exhausted by grueling shifts, support the system with daily sacrifices, while politics continues to postpone structural solutions. The result? Highly qualified professionals, with years of training and experience, are leaving public healthcare, attracted by better opportunities abroad or in other sectors. Meanwhile, instead of valuing existing skills and ensuring standards of excellence, we are witnessing the entry of professionals with inadequate training, often coming from countries with less rigorous training systems. The Nursing Up Emilia Romagna calls for urgent and concrete actions: Immediate stabilization of all precarious staff: nurses, midwives, and healthcare assistants. Significant investments to make healthcare professions attractive and encourage new hires. Adequate economic and professional recognition for healthcare workers, ensuring salaries and working conditions that match the responsibilities they hold. The health of citizens is a fundamental right, not a privilege. Losing more professionals would be a disaster. If politics is not able to address this emergency, it should step aside and make room for those who have the competence and courage to change things.
