For years, nurses have been treated as mere employees, when in reality their role is much more similar to that of middle managers. What is a "quadro" (middle manager)? In the world of work, a "quadro" is positioned between an employee and an executive. It is a figure with decision-making autonomy and a key role in process management. This professionalism requires specific skills, the ability to manage complex situations, and to take responsibility for one's own choices. Do you see yourselves in this? Maybe it's no coincidence that the average salary of a "quadro" in Italy is about 2600 euros. We are much more than simple employees. We don't just follow orders or perform standard tasks. Nurses manage, make crucial decisions, and are responsible for the quality of care provided. That's why a change is needed: nurses must be recognized as "quadri" within healthcare companies. Every day, nurses make fundamental decisions for patients' health, often in emergency situations. They are responsible for the entire care pathway, monitor progress, and intervene proactively to prevent complications. They don't simply follow directives; they adapt care to the specific needs of each patient, taking full responsibility for the choices made. Nurses, together with doctors, represent the heart of the healthcare system. While doctors focus on diagnosis and treatments, nurses ensure continuity of care, prevention, and constant monitoring of patients' health status. Their role is crucial, even more important, in some respects, than that of many executives or administrators who often do not fully understand the complexity of fieldwork. If suddenly all executives and administrators disappeared, hospitals would continue to function. Even the temporary absence of a doctor would not cause major problems. But if nurses were missing for just five minutes, everything would go haywire. It's time to take back what is rightfully ours, by any means necessary. The current regulations, which equate nurses with employees, ignore this reality. Our profession deserves different recognition: we must be considered as "quadri", with all the protections and rights that come with it. Not only to honor our work, but to guarantee working conditions appropriate to the responsibilities and risks we face every day. Being recognized as "quadri" would finally mean obtaining the autonomy we deserve and seeing our fundamental contribution to public health acknowledged.
