Today, Flag Day, is an important day for all Italians.
It is a day to celebrate the values of our Republic, including freedom, democracy, and equality.
But these values, for Italian nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, technicians, psychologists, etc., are just a distant memory.
In fact, nurses and other healthcare professionals have always been on the front lines in defending the health and well-being of citizens. They worked tirelessly during the pandemic, risking their own lives to save those of others.
And yet, despite their commitment and dedication, they still do not receive the recognition they deserve.
They are often victims of violence and aggression, have low salaries and lack rights.
It is a real paradox that those who take care of the health of citizens are the most mistreated and most discriminated against.
It is time for the Government, for all of politics, to acknowledge this situation and commit to guaranteeing nurses and all healthcare professionals the respect and rights they deserve.
