Nursing Up, the union of nurses and health professionals, criticizes the decision of the management of Sant’Orsola to proceed with the merger of the operating rooms of block A, block B, and the Orthopedic block, which in our opinion, as with the medical cars, has the sole objective of saving money at the expense of citizens and professionals.
In our operating blocks there are teams of highly qualified professionals—nurses, doctors, technicians—who, over the years, have trained and specialized to perform very complex procedures, improving the quality and efficiency of all clinical-care processes, achieving excellence recognized at the national and international level.
With the implementation of the changes proposed by the Company, many of these skills, knowledge, and acquired experiences, especially those of the nurses involved, will be greatly weakened in favor of a generalist organization where everyone will have to 'rotate on all procedures'.
While the FNOPI “envisions” the nurse of the future as a highly specialized professional with the proposal of radical changes in training with ad hoc pathways (proposals emerging from the FNOPI Consensus Conference), the direction that the A.O.U. Sant’Orsola wants to take, which we recall has been recognized as an IRCCS since 2020, is to create a jack-of-all-trades nurse in highly complex contexts.
It is also stated in the new 2023/25 corporate PIAO (integrated activity and organization plan) that
the company's mission is: “to promote high specialization and excellence in care and research”
We list some of the company's principles (from the PIAO):
“respect for the person and their centrality”
“Clinical-professional competence”
“Quality, safety, and appropriateness of services”
All conditions that are difficult to achieve with the implementation of this project.
If the aim of this managerial and political class is to weaken public healthcare, they are succeeding, in every Company, in every city, in every region.
One of the many reasons why more and more professionals are leaving the public sector for the private sector or even abroad. One of the many reasons why our profession is losing its appeal.
Promote an ideal working environment for professionals, helping them to do their best work and to improve care and assistance to patients.
Weask: to set aside this cost-saving project and invest in the creation of integrated operating rooms, equipped with the latest technologies and medical equipment.
Create post-basic and advanced study pathways for health professionals.
The introduction of a skills recognition system, which rewards professionals for their commitment, excellence, and contribution to medical practice.
Wesuggest providing support from the hospital psychology service.
Working in healthcare can be stressful and emotionally demanding, so it is important to provide psychological support services to professionals.
