The municipal administration of Imola meets with the category unions Nursing Up and Nursind.
This morning at 08:00 Mayor Marco Panieri received the union representatives of healthcare professionals.
They discussed Healthcare and in particular the prevention of any form of violence, whether physical or verbal, in hospital environments.
The category unions, Anna Esposito Fabiano for Nursind and Giuseppe Calia for Nursing Up, presented a joint proposal, the mayor read and discussed the various points with the two union representatives.
The meeting with the Mayor was relaxed and productive, Anna Esposito Fabiano: I am glad that all parties involved are committed to finding a solution, I am sure and convinced that only with everyone's collaboration will we be able to overcome this. Our nurses, who statistically are the most affected, but also all other healthcare professionals and doctors, deserve to work in peace, without the worry of being attacked.
Giuseppe Calia, Nursing Up manager: the mayor welcomed our requests, he will evaluate them with the police forces, he showed himself to be very attentive and motivated to solve this hateful national problem, he also confirmed that meetings have been underway for days with the Police Headquarters, with the Azienda Ausl Imola, together, united to seek the best possible solution. I would like to remind you that in case of assault on a healthcare worker, there are very severe penalties, up to 16 years in prison and fines up to 5,000 euros. Zero tolerance.
Not everyone knows that healthcare workers in Italy, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, OSS, technicians, etc., receive salaries well below the OECD average, in proportion to risks, responsibilities, and cost of living.
In the first year of covid-19, all our workers showed up to work even though they knew they did not have PPE available against a then unknown virus.
Many got sick, many died.
It is not right that to help others, moreover without real economic recognition, they are also attacked.
Nurses are the category most affected in the world by burnout, stress, suicides. More and more nurses are leaving the profession and more and more students are leaving the course already halfway through the first year of studies
