A hateful and equally dangerous phenomenon, born in England and immediately spread to Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France. Now there is an alarm in Italy, it's only a matter of time. Needle Spiking, these are sneak attacks with needles carried out by criminals (the right term in our opinion) on the arms, legs or back, in crowded places (nightclubs, concerts), where the victim remembers nothing, some have even woken up in different places. All the testimonies coincide, the victim suddenly feels a prick in the crowd, and within a few minutes confusion and emptiness begin. In half of Europe it has become a real psychosis (justified). First arrest in France, in Toulon, the police are investigating to see if there are connections with other reports they have received from various cities in France. The criminal is a twenty-year-old arrested for aggravated assault with weapons (the syringe) plus premeditation, a serious charge. No trace of drugs was found in the blood and urine of the victims; as nurses we wonder why they didn't do a hair test? Many drugs remain visible in hair for up to 90 days. In our opinion, in Italy a very strict law should be immediately enacted to prevent possible wrongdoers, it's only a matter of time. As healthcare professionals we are concerned, this phenomenon is dangerous, in addition to the risk of respiratory arrest that the drug, currently unknown, could induce, there are the psychological repercussions of the assaults, the method of pricking several people with the same needle, with the risk of virus transmission (HIV, HCV, etc.), something underestimated for now by the European police.
