Silently, without fanfare, the government continues to take vital resources away from key sectors of society. 6 million euros cut from breast cancer prevention, an amount that, compared to the enormous profits of energy and banking companies, seems almost like a pittance, but represents a very hard blow for public healthcare and for the lives that depend on it. Meanwhile, while healthcare workers flee abroad attracted by offers that seem unattainable in Italy, essential funds continue to be denied to public employees, schools, security, and justice. The shortage of police officers, the lack of heating in schools, the desertification of medical, nursing, obstetric, technical, physiotherapist, and support staff assistance, are just some of the signs of a system that is faltering under the blows of questionable political choices. Yet, the extra profits of energy companies, which in 2024 collected 5.26 billion euros, remain untouched. The banks celebrate 24.85 billion in profits, while for healthcare it seems impossible to find funds. However, there is no shortage of money for a migrant center in Albania worth one billion euros, still unused, nor for financing a war that the people never asked for. Who really benefits from these choices? Who benefits from the continuous disinvestment in health, security, and education? And above all: who pays the price for all this? Healthcare is slowly dying, and it is now a certainty before everyone's eyes: there is a lack of funds, personnel, and vision. While hospitals and workers struggle, political attention shifts to winds of war that seem almost artificially constructed, as if they serve to divert attention from the real internal problems. It is a dangerous game, where the price is paid by the health of citizens. The sacrifice does not weigh on those who govern, nor on public managers. The burden falls on the shoulders of citizens, workers, and families who see their rights and essential services increasingly eroded. It is time to raise our voices, to demand transparency, to demand that priorities return to what really matters: the life, health, and future of those who live in this country.
