Sottopagati, sfruttati e senza benefit: la dura realtà degli infermieri in Italia

Miseri aumenti di 60-70 euro...

While in Europe their colleagues earn decent salaries and enjoy numerous benefits, Italian nurses, as well as midwives and other professionals, are being offered miserable raises of 60-70 euros net in the next contract.

An offensive proposal that does not take into account their fundamental role, the risks, and the responsibilities they face daily.

Italy at the bottom of Europe:

  • Salaries: In Italy a nurse earns on average 1600€ net per month (25-26,000 euros per year), compared to 48,000 dollars in the UK, 56,000 dollars in Spain, 71,000 dollars in the Netherlands, and 104,000 dollars in Luxembourg.
  • Benefits: In many European countries, nurses receive free master's degrees, travel tickets to return home, help with rent and utilities, generous meal vouchers/canteen. In Italy? None of this.

- Antonio DeFazio, Nursing Up Ancona union leader: Lack of respect and terrible working conditions:

  • Unrecognized strenuous profession: Unlike other countries, in Italy the nursing profession is still not considered strenuous, with serious repercussions on the health and well-being of workers.
  • Exclusivity allowance denied: The exclusivity allowance, provided for those who work only in the public sector, is denied.
  • Unpaid holidays and missed rest days: A long-standing problem that creates further stress and frustration.
  • Staff shortages: The shortage of nurses, OSS, and support staff makes the work even more burdensome and increases the risk of errors.
  • Toxic work environments: Stress, grueling shifts, bullying, and verbal and physical assaults are unfortunately the order of the day.

- Vincenzo Parisi union leader: Enough!

The Government must act urgently and find concrete solutions for these unacceptable situations. Resources can be found by cutting waste, reducing privileges, and fighting corruption.

Nurses deserve:

  • A salary increase of at least 500 euros net per month, to bring it to the OECD average.
  • Recognition of the strenuous profession.
  • Full payment of the exclusivity allowance.
  • Respect for holidays and rest days.
  • More staff to lighten the workload.
  • Safe and peaceful work environments.

- Cesare Ciaccia, Nursing Up Bologna Leader: Enough with empty promises! Only with concrete commitment from the government and health companies can dignity be given to this profession, which is fundamental for our health system. More and more colleagues are leaving, politics pretends not to notice. Professionals need concrete answers, not empty words.

We invite all citizens to support the cause of nurses and all health professionals. It's time to give them the respect and recognition they deserve!

Nurses, it's time to make our voices heard!

Enough with starvation wages, grueling shifts, and unacceptable working conditions!
