On December 5th, nurses and midwives, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, technicians, etc., will take to the streets to protest against the 2024 financial maneuver, against pension cuts, and the toxic climate that now exists in Italian companies. The strike, called by Nursing Up, was organized to demand greater investment in public healthcare, which in recent years has been severely tested by the COVID-19 pandemic. The clear demands: Increase in resources allocated to public healthcare, to ensure improved quality of care and reduction of waiting lists. Increase in salaries for healthcare workers, which are still among the lowest in Europe. Recognition of the nursing profession and other healthcare professions, through reform of the training system and the introduction of new specializations. The chronic shortage of staff Abolish the clearance that keeps professionals prisoners of companies that are increasingly ruthless and unfair towards the needs of professionals Too many overpaid managers and too few professionals who can't even make it to the end of the month A single national contract is needed 50% tax reduction The 2024 financial maneuver is not enough to bridge the gap between the resources needed and those available. The National Health Service is a precious asset for the community, guaranteeing all citizens, regardless of their economic status, access to medical care. However, in recent years, the NHS has faced a series of difficulties, which have led to an increase in waiting lists and a deterioration in the quality of care. The December 5th strike is an important sign of protest by nurses, midwives, and other professionals, who are asking the government to invest in public healthcare and guarantee the right to health for all citizens. Participating in the strike is an opportunity to send a strong message to politics: we are no longer willing to tolerate systematic cuts to healthcare, which have afflicted us for too long.
